Hi everyone, my name is Brandi and I'm from Savannah, GA. My mom and I are very new to owning chickens and got our first pullets in January. We got ours from my mom's friend and started off with 4. 3 were a mix of a black ameraucana mom and the 2 dads were barred rock and Rhode island red. Our other is a Frizzle named Tina (Tina Turner, lol) our other 3 are named Daisy, Quinn and Raven.
After a couple of months with these girls, I saw on my local backyard chicken Facebook page that someone's neighbor had left behind 4 chickens when they moved. It took a month, but we caught all 4. There are 2 Japanese black tailed white bantam, a solid black one (I think it may be another type of bantam, just not as small as the Japanese) and a sex link. All 4 of them are staying as well. Lol.
We had a Rhode island red that I had rescued, but unfortunately last week something got ahold of her and killed her.
So far only 2 of our 8 are laying and we are so ready for the rest to start laying! We're in the process of building them a larger coop because right now everyone is scattered around in various smaller "coops" because we never planned on having this many!! They do get to free range a bit in the evenings when we get home from work.
Hoping to get a lot of useful info from this site!
