We have lots of chickens and no eggs. Free roaming and the like to lay eggs under the house. I'm looking for solutions.

Hello and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us. I'm assuming that you have a coop for your hens (to sleep in?) - if you keep them in the coop (with food and water) until they lay (and only let them out thereafter) they should eventually get into the swing of laying the nest boxes in the coop.

Best wishes

We made the mistake several years ago of letting them free range 24/7. No coop, they use our trees as sleeping coops.

It is a good setup except we don't have good access to the eggs

! Pleased you joined us! I'm in agreement with the above - without a proper coop with laying boxes it may be difficult to get them to lay in a reliable place. Also, do you worry about predators getting them at night? A coop would assure their safety. Best wishes - hope you find a workable solution!

Sleeping in trees they are sitting ducks for owls and other predators. You have chickens but, none of the benefits. I'm assuming they don't come home with a batch of chicks behind them either.

Hello, and welcome to BYC! I may be able to help you with chickens, but if ever you get ducks, I might not be able to help! It's great to have you!
