I've been a long-time reader of the forum for a wide range of topics.
I've been meaning to sign up and participate for quite a while now, but getting our first egg today is what finally inspired me to take the leap! I've found such a wealth of information here already and look forward to learning more.
I grew up around my grandmother's laying hens. I have such good memories of hers, and hoped some day to be able to have my own flock. My husband and I recently retired and moved to an acreage where I've finally realized my dream of having a flock of hens. We have 10 Jersey Giants (9 hens, 1 roo), and 9 Easter Eggers, all hens. The rooster was a surprise, but we have decided to keep him for now, because he seems to be a good protector.
