Hi there, I've lurked here for years and decided to join today! My husband and kids and I live in Oklahoma. I've loved chickens since I was a little girl. My grandmother would let us gather eggs and bring her RIR's into the living room to play with. I begged my parents for some bantams as a teenager; we lived in the city, but our home, per chance, was an old farmhouse a suburb had grown up around and it was grandfathered in that we could have farm animals. So they built me a coop WAY before it was trendy and I've been in love ever since.
Our family moved to the country onto acreage 6 years ago. We moved for my husband's job, and my single demand was that we build or buy a coop and get some chickens. He rolled his eyes, but yielded: the first flock won him over. He adores trading our food scraps for fresh eggs
and is quick to protect the birds. I can sit outside and watch chickens for hours; every bird has a personality! I am about to start two new projects this spring - raising Silver Gray Dorkings and raising Pilgrim goslings, along with our usual mixed laying flock. I love to talk chickens and see photos! I'm excited to finally take the plunge and join the community.
