Hi Everyone,

Joined as we recently jumped all in with this hobby.

We have 8 acres with a 3 acre pond and after all the wild water fowl would ignore our 3 year old I decided we would raise friendly ones.

So far we have 3 saxony, 1 peking, 4 Muscovy and are about to pick up a few cayugas.

We live in Washington, not too far from Seattle.

As an aside, I’m trying to find a source for some ornamental ducklings, maybe mandarins to start. Any advice?

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Try looking in local FB Poultry groups. Be aware that wild waterfowl are the primary carriers of highly pathogenic avian influenza. The country is currently having an outbreak.

Welcome to BYC. Congrats on your new ducks!

Note: Do be weary with the wild ducks around your domestic ones. There is a severe outbreak of Avian Flu in many places and is almost always lethal.

Never had mandarins or any other ornamental breeds of the sorts. I'd look for breeders around your area to start with. Maybe try FB or Craigslist? You can also try posting in the Buy ~ Sell ~ Trade or Ducks section. I did do a quick search and it says that Purely Poultry has them (though they were QUITE expensive). Good luck further expanding your flock!
