New Here- We got the weirdest egg yesterday.. want to share!

Hi there- We live in the Ft. Worth Texas area. We have 4 chickens, 3 cats, a horse and 2 dogs. My husband and I have two daughters that we homeschool. We are involved in a 4H club and thought we'd try our hand at chickens. We built them a coop over the summer using some of the ideas from this website. Everyone I know that has chickens, I've steered them to this stie.. it is so helpful! I have appreciated being able to get on here and read through the forums for advice. Anyway, here is the weird part. Three of our chickens started laying about a month ago. We've been waiting for that 4th egg! Yesterday, my daughter and I went out to gather eggs and when we looked in, there was the biggest egg we'd ever seen! It was 2-3 x's the size of the normal eggs.. so we came in and cracked it... much to our surprise, there was another egg inside! The big egg had some whites in it, no yolk.. the egg that came out of it had a single yolk. Have any of you heard of such a thing? I am guessing it came from the chicken that hadn't been laying.. poor girl! Today, we had only 3 eggs again. I'm going to try and post a picture of the egg. Thanks for having me here!

Someone posted about that happening to an egg in the last two weeks. I found it amazing. In the search box in the top right type in 'double egg' and see if you get anything.

Oh really? I didn't know anyone posted about this. Thanks! Yes, the little egg was inside the big egg! I have heard of double yolks, but never a double egg!

Last year someone's EE laid a huge blue egg that had a regular egg inside of it. Weird.

I have to say, I hope something like this does not happen when one of my squeamish friends is over... one was horrified when she heard I wasn't washing my eggs, I can only imagine what she would do if she saw mutant eggs!

I would luv to get something like your double egg. Have had double yolks. I have read about the egg inside the egg though.
