Greetings to all,

My name is Verna and my boys and I raise chickens in South Western Colorado. My sons are 14, 9 and 5. They love chickens and all of us are certafiably "chicken crazy". We have had chickens on and off for the past 8 years. Back in February, we ordered a batch from McMuarry's Hatchery. They were such cute, fuzzy, little darlings. Now....they are big, fluffy, extremely spoiled chickens who think I am Mom. They come runnning to the edge of coop area when they sense I am there. The ones who can escape lie in wait for me by the front door. One has actually figured out how to knock.

Right now, we have Black Cochin, White Cochin and Black Langshan that we have raised from babies. We were given 6 Buff Orpingtons, about 3 months ago, who now also think I am Mom and that they are in charge of the place. We then got 2 Black Stars, 2 Red Stars and 3 Leghorns that someone was selling. They are gorgeous and have adjusted well. 3 of our originals ended up being Langshan Roosters. Ronan, Titan and Phineas are hysterical. I call Ronan and Titan the twins, because they are the closest in size and HUGE. Phineas is a bit smaller. They don't fight (they are 6 months old), but they have seperated themselves and each has chosen a group of hens that have also each made their own clicks. There was an add for someone who was looking for a home for 18, 2 year old hens. They are in a molt, and they are sooo ugly, that I just had to get them. I think several people had already looked at them. Their Mom has been back east for a couple of weeks since her Mom died, and I don't think her husband had the same touch. They are starting to look gorgeous again. I still need to figure out what breeds they are. I should stop now. Give me a page and I will fill it with chicken ..... well, you know.
