this is my first post here. We just bought a beautiful property in a town that allows chickens! Still waiting to close but I'm trying to educate myself ahead of time. I have friends who raise chickens and plan to ask their advice too. Looking or ward to learning more about all of this and showing my kids about chickens.

Please visit the Learning Center, your kids will think you wrote the book on chickens. Glad you joined us at Backyard Chickens

How nice you'll be able to have chickens at your new home! Drumstick diva is right, the Learning Center is the place to start finding out about chickens, this link will take you there:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

This is one of the articles from the LC you might like to see, it's how to determine which breeds may work best for your situation:

If you have questions, feel free to ask. There is a lot of information available and some very friendly, helpful members.

Nice to have you here!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Murray McMurray has an excellent "chick selector" tool at https://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/chick_selector.html to help you determine which breeds are best for you. Just be sure and click on "show more characteristics." Even if you don't purchase your birds from Murray, the "chick selector" is still a valuable tool. X2 on drumstick diva and NorthFlChick; if you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Whatever breeds you decide to get, good luck with your flock.
