Hi My name is Debbie I am a Hospice Nurse and I live in Sunny Florida. I am new to chicken keeping, and obtained my first chickens mid April for my Birthday. I have six leghorn hens, and am in search of a rooster. since I am new to this I had a few mishaps leading to the demise of all but one of my original 6. I have 3 dogs; 2 Great Danes and a lab/boxer mix. my efforts to keep them apart fell short on a couple of occasions. lessons learned and a better more secure enclosure for my hens has been completed. I kick myself every day for my beautiful birds that were lost. I did find similar aged leghorns and now have a revived flock. I found this page every time I looked up something to learn about with my chickens. thanks for being here!

Welcome to BYC, so glad you've joined us! Losses are hard, but all you can do is move forward, as you have and make changes to avoid repeats.

I prefer to err on the side of caution and say "Dogs/cats and chickens should NEVER meet. You never hear of chickens killing a dog or cat.
