New here

:welcome

It's nice you can get back to raising chickens! I'm not familiar with the steel house you are looking for, but maybe someone over on the Coop/Run forum will be...here's a link to take you to the part of BYC:
Coop & Run - Design, Construction, & Maintenance

Best of luck with your plans, it's nice to have you here!

Greetings and welcome to BYC! Sorry to hear about your stroke. I'm assuming that you've recovered enough to function (you're getting chickens). So glad you joined us. I can't ever recall finding or hearing of worms inside an egg? :eek:Seriously? I think I'd stop eating eggs! :th:sick Lice and mites are bad, but easily dealt with...

There's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. I've never seen a brooder like you've described... Maybe you could search the internet for a picture? By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

Oh, if you haven't done so already, PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. Old folks like me :old will never remember & look there first. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes. Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!
Once you find a tape worm inside you will definitely start cracking your eggs into a bowl! My stroke only took my peripheral vision but I can’t get a license because of it. What really limits me from working in the hog barns is my heart. Oh and I added southern Illinois as location. Thanks

Welcome to byc. I am not familiar with a steel brooder but I think I understand the design you mean. Cackle hatchery sells a 'brooder guard' that is an octagonal shape and made out of plastic panels. There is one made by little giant that is cardboard as well. Both are fairly cheap and the plastic one breaks down easily for storage if you plan to do this more than once.

Glad you are getting back into chickens. I too had them when I was younger and go back into them a few years ago. I spend much less time on the computer and in front of the tv now. True entertainment!
