(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Brand new to chickens. Just picked up some chicks this week.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
5
(3) What breeds do you have?
Buttercup, Buff Orpington, Blue Cochin, Speckeled Sussex, and what was advertised as an Amaracauna, but I'm reading that she is probably an Easter Egger. One of each. My kids have named them, and love them already!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Having the birds around the property. Teaching kiddos about responsibility. Having our hard work rewarded with eggs.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love to sew, knit, and crochet. I like to work on my antique Singer sewing machines.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We are a family of 5. My husband and I have three kids, ages 11, 8, and 5. We also have two rescue dogs who are a little bit too interested in the chicks we brought home.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
Several nights of google searching answers to my questions. BYC popped in many times in my search results. It's only been a few days, and I've already spent hours reading here. Thanks for having me!

Hi and welcome to BYC and congrats on your new hobby.

You have some beautiful choices there. One of my first hens was a Buttercup, and Mia was simply gorgeous! Your others are all beautiful, too.

Kudos for keeping your antique Singer alive. I have four machines now (none of which really get much use), but none will EVER compare with my old Singer. I like to pretend I can knit and crochet, but mostly I just buy yarn that looks great but rarely gets made into anything.

Congrats on your new flock and welcome to BYC!
