Save a chick only has B12, while that is important the issue is that goslings can be deficient in more than just B12, other B vitamin deficiency or a vitamin E deficiency could cause the symptoms you’re seeing. He is getting sav-a-chic electrolytes.
He has been doing this since I left home, Last Monday. I do not know what his droppings look like because I am not home, and now my Mom told me that he is not eating, but is drinking, so I had her prop him up between 2 hay bales and put some of the B Vitamin mix that Miss Lydia suggested. I think she said it looked like diarrhea, but no other symptoms', but he is not looking good either. My Mom is not the best person to treat him as she cries all the time and then gets angry with me as I am trying to help her to help him. He may have gotten into stagnant water because it has rained a lot lately. I don't know about getting into metal or paint, but I know over winter our wing tips kept disappearing and we kept replacing them on the top of the feeders. sometimes we would find one or two, but the rest we have no idea what happed to them... Could he have eaten them?Save a chick only has B12, while that is important the issue is that goslings can be deficient in more than just B12, other B vitamin deficiency or a vitamin E deficiency could cause the symptoms you’re seeing.
I would get a B vitamin mix like Miss Lydia suggested or poultry nutrient-drench.
There are other possible causes for nuerological symptoms like this besides vitamin deficiency, botulism or metal poisoning to name a few.
How long has he been tipping onto his back?
What do his droppings look like?
Have you noticed any other symptoms?
Could he have gotten into any compost, dirty stagnant water, or swallowed/been chewing on metal or paint?
I don’t know what you mean by disappearing wing tips but if whatever they are keeps disappearing there is a likelihood the geese could have been chewing on them.He has been doing this since I left home, Last Monday. Thank you, but my Mom is going to have the neighbor put him down. I am very heartbroken over this as this was my 1st set of geese. She said it was my fault for not being there. She refuses to take him to the vet because it is too far for her. I am too far away to do anything as I would at least try to help him.I don’t know what you mean by disappearing wing tips but if whatever they are keeps disappearing there is a likelihood the geese could have been chewing on them.
Is it possible for your mom to get him to a vet?
A vet can better determine what’s wrong and treat it if that’s at all possible, I’m guessing that he hasn’t eaten since Monday at the least, whatever may be wrong at this point the biggest risk is that he hasn’t eaten, if he doesn’t get food into him soon he is going to die very soon.
I’m sorry to have to say that but I can tell that you care about him and it doesn’t sound like your mother is capable of caring for him, let alone tube feeding him, his life depends on him seeing a vet as soon as possible, as in tomorrow.
In the meantime have your mom add a cup or two of his feed into a bucket of water. Sometimes it can encourage them to play and eat, at the very least if he just sips it he will be getting some nutrients, not enough to keep him alive, but hopefully it gives him a bit of energy.
His breathing is very labored, a friend said it looks neurological. I think it is metal poisoning from eating wing nuts.Thank you, but my Mom is going to have the neighbor put him down. I’m so sorry! Unfortunatly it’s very hard to treat metal toxicity, it requires weeks of costly CaEDTA injections and possibly surgery and oftentimes the treatment fails anyways. It’s very hard to prevent geese from swallowing things they shouldn’t, I know from expierience. His breathing is very labored, a friend said it looks neurological. Thank you so much for caring like I do about my fur, feather babies.I’m so sorry! You did nothing wrong and your mother is wrong to blame you, honestly it sounds like your mother is a lot like mine, blaming everyone else for things that go wrong despite not trying herself. Losing a goose or any loved animal is heartbreaking, being blamed for it is emotional abuse. Please know that you did nothing wrong, you can’t prevent every emergency, and there’s nothing you could do to change what happened. I’m so sorry for your loss and what you’re going through.
Mine are my babies and I know from expierience how hard it is to go through what you’re going through. If you ever need to reach out and talk to someone I and the rest of the goose community are here, we’re all Goose friends here.Thank you so much for caring like I do about my fur, feather babies.
