Hi all, my name is Linda. We inherited 3 chickens from our neighbors rather abruptly and have zero experience , we’ve had them for a week and they are still alive! So many questions! Do they eat mice as they have caught 2 already! Didn’t stick around to see what they did with them. We live in Wisconsin and are concerned about wintering them safely. I don’t even know what type hens they are, just know they will start laying soon. Looking forward to learning to care for these pretty girls.

Hello, and welcome! Yes, chicken's will eat mice and bug's too. It's extra protein for them. Chicken's are not vegetarian's. It look's like your's are Buff Orpington's.

Hi Linda, do you have a coop for your flock? I would guess WI will be getting winter soon and you'll want to have them protected from the elements.

Yep. And snakes and frogs and baby birds and worms and spiders and moths and butterflies and all other types of flying critters that they can catch.

Welcome to the coop! I use the Forums and Articles tabs at the top of the page to do research. You can get lost for hours. It's nice to know you are minutes away from getting help with questions and emergencies.
Caution: This was my biggest mistake...Prefab coops. I know they look great online but aren't worth the $. I could have got a costco shed and added a few things and been better off.
