New here

Welcome. What did you do before getting the new chickens to increase your security. We can help here if you post pictures of your set up.
The loss of the first 2 were due to chickens not making it into the coop at night. Our coop is ~1000 feet from the house in a half acre area enclosed with 8’ high fences (our garden area). To solve that problem we installed an exterior and interior camera on the coop. We can now check them any time, which makes it easy to quickly drive home to put any errant chicks away if we are at a friends house for dinner.

The loss of the last 3 were due to a coyote breaking into the fenced area and having an early morning breakfast. We had our auto chicken doors opening at first light. We now have them open at least an hour after daybreak. We also added a 200’ electric netting fence around the coop so the chickens are closer to the coop should a predator show up.

We are in a remote area with lots of wildlife so losses are bound to happen. Hopefully the measures we have taken will at least minimize any losses we have.
