Low intensity, low management, practical backyard chix keeper. Only have three hens. They get table scraps and grains mostly. Try to let them out of pen to forage in 5-acre woodlot daily for variable periods. They really damage our extensive landscape plantings, so have to ride herd on them some. They have learned that when I do shoo them away from trees/shrubs and back into woodlot, often I drive them all the way to pen, where they get a serving of grain, so they are not so much trouble to round up.

BTW snake in avatar is a ringer for many I have pulled out of our henhouse. When I get one I bring it to the patio and make it endure terrifying scrutiny by our housecats, who are very interested in them.

Your a better person than me because if it were me I be replacing the back of the coop from shotgun holes, scared to death of snakes 6 inches to 6 feet freak me out.

I like snakes, but after getting this close to getting bit this past Friday... I might be changing my mind if that happens again lol. Enjoy the site!
