Hello!

We're assembling "my" first flock...I'm new to chickens but my husband is not. He grew up farming & raising chickens, cows, goats, horses, etc.

I have SO many questions though and want to do the best for our chickens!

Our flock runs around the same age...we are taking 4 super friendly, sweet jersey giants from our friend who previously had a flock of 64 chickens but has been rehoming them due to her ailing health.

From another friend, we're getting 2 Easter eggers, 1 RIR & possibly 1 big white...we're also getting a rooster from her & he is fertile.

All the hens are laying hens.

We have a nice coop...I just want to learn more about specific diets, egg production...any helpful tips, tricks or advice.

I look forward to chatting with y'all!

Sounds like you have a lovely flock!

Our learning center is packed full of info

And then if you have questions about any of the things you listed, here are some good places to ask

Good luck!

Will you be quarantining the new birds before adding them to the flock? Every time you add new members you don't know what they may be harboring, from mites, worms, etc. to possibly some illness or disease. Some recommend a quarantine of 4 weeks. Beyond that you will probably have some integration issues unless you keep the new flocks separated from your originals.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to our flock. Congratulations! It's always exciting getting that first flock. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
