Last night we got our first chicken. She is a little cranky but getting adjusted our dogs are bothering her like crazy. I don't know the first thing about chickens but hope to learn fast and make her happy [IMG]

Welcome but please visit the learning center tab at the top of the page to educate yourself.
Keep the dogs at bay. That kind of stress is really bad for chickens as both prey and predator animals.
Chickens are flock animals so she needs friends of the feathered variety.
A lone chicken will go downhill pretty fast.

    Out to pasture
Dogs + chickens = dead chickens. You never hear of a chicken killing a dog. That's why she is so cranky.

    Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! The dog will certainly be making her cranky also a new home and if she is on her own could be upsetting her too. Chickens are flock animals and do like to have the company of others. Wishing you the very best of luck with her.

Be sure to ask any questions everyone here to help and very friendly. Enjoy BYC :frow

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. You have a beautiful Barred Rock hen. Unfortunately dogs and chickens typically don't mix well. We get lots of letters from new members who are shocked because their seemingly benign dog (even small ones like chihuahuas) suddenly and unexpectedly chased and killed their chickens. And once a dog has killed a chicken, it's virtually impossible to break them from doing it again. Dogs just naturally seem to view chickens either as prey, or as chew toys. I would strongly recommend keeping your dogs and your chicken separated. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. Good luck with your Barred Rock.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

    Lovely barred rock!

Don't let the dog and chicken be near each other.
