Today I cut a 9" wide door in a white plastic 55 gal. drum and ran a broomstick through it for a perch. I got an 8ft. treated 2X4 and sliced it down the middle and in half. A 2' 2X4 was lag-screwed to the inner legs and the outer legs through the inner ones into the 2X4 with 6" lag screws. It is an X shaped support with cargo straps forming a sling and straight ones holding the angle. I put it in the bush on the South side of the house facing East and drilled small drain holes in the bottom should it ever take on water. Next I will stick some hay, or straw if I can find some in it and hope he decides to bunk in it. His sweety spends the night sitting on about a dozen eggs just taking a break occasionally to eat, at which time he makes up for lost time with her. The top bung hole may get a covered light bulb this Winter. It will be interesting to see if he accepts the new housing.

It will be so cute when they hatch. All your hard work will be paid off!! Please keep updating your status here. I'm very interested to see how you go. Pictures would be really nice if you can post together. Good luck

Today Gen. Grant's lil bearded lady hatched her first chick. Cute little dude as far as I can see in fleeting glances as it disappears into the holly bush and Mom Russet and dark, a bit scruffy so far. Pix when more come or I can get near it. Looks like a dead one in the nest, or what's left of it. I guess Momma will do what is needed.
