New home made bator 12/26 update

I want to put a turner in it and don't want the temps to be different as they are turned. I'm only going to do 12.

I swapped out the thermo's and the temps remained the same about 2deg. cooler at the top, the bottom was steady at 100.

cmom, I put a jelly jar with a sponge in it into the bator, the water disappeared, humidity went from 20-21%.

I'm not happy with this setup, I'm going back to the styrofoam cooler. I have everything in the basement, and it's cooler than the rest of the house, so I'm going to bring it up here where the computer sits in a spare bedroom, there's a closet here that I can put everything in and I think it will work better.

The move is done. Last night I unplugged the bator in the basement, temps were steady as before, humidity at 21%. Went down there just now and the humidity had gone to 58%. I now have everything in the styrofoam cooler, inside a closet, and on heat with a 60w bulb. And the jelly jar.

Testing has gone well, temps staying at 100. modifying the hot water heater thermostat has done wonders for keeping the temps steady. The last hatch had temp swings like a roller coaster, now they stay right on the money. I'm glad I did it. Humidity has been something else, dry it stayed about 30%. Water in a jelly jar with a sponge was about 50%. Today I put a small tray in and added water and left the jelly jar full, I'll go look at what the humidity is now. WOW what a difference, humidity is 70% and the temps went up to 100. I like it.

I've been playing with the humidity the last couple of days, and can't believe how fast it will raise just putting a wet sponge in it. I have a jelly jar with water and a paper shop towel for a wick that keeps the humidity in the 50-55 range, but when I put the wet sponge in it, it soars to 75 in a matter of minutes. The temperature will raise also with the added humidity, not much but it does raise. I need to make a phone call today to see if I can get some eggs. I think I'm ready.
