I recently bought a new home and the previous owner left two of their dogs, a duck... and possibly and outdoor cat, because we get visited daily.
While I already had dogs, so this was no big deal, the duck is a new addition.
I'm here looking for words of advice and suggestions. I've already read some which I've implemented, so thank you to all you duck parents who have taken the time to share some sage advice.

Happy that you have joined us!
And, congratulations on your new home- and your new friends!

Ducks tend to do best w a companion (or companions)
But. If your “inherited” duck is used to being solo, s/he may be ok?
Our house included a Springer Spaniel that was the neighbor’s dog.... but he adopted us, and we enjoyed him until we eventually had to say goodbye (we have been here for quite a while)

Do you know what kind of duck you have? Any idea of age?
Photos can help us identify the variety, and possibly the sex, but are not likely to help w age...

Do you have any specific questions about feed, shelter, etc?

Welcome to BYC!
I'm shocked that they left behind their pets! I'm glad you are willing to take them in.

Do you know what breed your duck is and gender? Are you open to getting more ducks? They are flock animals and do best with their own kind.

Specific questions are easier to answer, so if you have any feel free to ask! If you are just wanting to do some reading and find general info the Duck Forum and Articles are a great place to start.

I have no idea what type. I was told there were two but one flew away and the other stayed behind. She likes to "talk" to my son while he's cleaning the yard and feed the animals. We live in Las Vegas and the duck have a section all to themselves with shade, a coop, a water spot and food spot. I took someone's advice on this site and did the dog kennel and moved the ducklings outside to get them used to it. They love it. They were getting too big for what we had them in. The newest additions, we still don't know what they are. But one is all black and one is brown and yellow striped.
