New in North Dakota

Hello!

We live in North Dakota and are new to chickens! I am on the home stretch of homeschooling-I have one left to graduate, he is 16. I have two other sons that are 20 and 17 (almost 18) both going to college.

I love birds and look forward to raising chickens! We are in the process of purchasing acreage, so we do not have chickens yet!!
This is a very new endeavor for us! We have always been country folk-but we are not farmers!! Even to say we will have a hobby farm is a stretch!!

The information on BYC is wonderful! For me, it's been the most helpful website on the internet!

One thing I would recommend is birds with smaller combs to better cope with the brutal ND winters you folks have. Welcome to Byc are you new to ND as well ??? Or just to chickens. This is NOT a normal winter!!!!! A lot of the fun I find with chickens is looking at all the different breeds and then trying to find what works for you.

As you have already received some great tips I will just add that I hope you enjoy BYC. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends
