My name is Ty Percy. I'm 39 years old and have been a city slicker since my family moved from the country to the city when I was 16 years old. Up until we moved, I spent quite a bit of time working on my friends small farm. Hens and fryers were a big part of their farm, so I have some experience with them, but it's been about 23 years ago now. For the past couple of years I have been feeling the urge to get a few hens to have in the backyard for pets and of course for the eggs. I just kind of assumed I didn't have enough room or there were city ordinances that would prohibit me from having hens. As it turns out, I have plenty of room, and it is perfectly legal for me to have them!! I have been surfing for the past few days to learn what I need to know in order to get started. This site has been a huge help to me, and the members seem extremely friendly and helpful. I am looking forward to learning more and coming up with a coop/run design and figuring out which breed(s) I want to get. At this point I am thinking I will start with about 3 hens. I am going to continue to search the forums for answers to my questions before I ask questions that have probably been asked a dozen times this year.
