Thank you all so much for the warm welcome! Here's my attempt at adding a pic:
Yeah, it worked! Thanks, Imp, for the pic advice.
I pasted in the thumb, so I think you can click on it to see the big pic.
My hubby said if I wanted chickens, I had to build the coop, so I got to work with the drawings and then too many trips to Home Depot to count (and a total expenditure that crept much higher than intended!) But the gals seem happy!
"teach1rusl", yes!! they are laying fabulously! I get about a dozen eggs a week from them. The black one skips a day or two each week, and lays green-blue eggs with very orange, creamy yolks. The orange gal one only skips one day per week, and lays nice brown eggs.
Ok, here are my gals! Any opinions on breed are welcomed! I got them from a neighbor high-school student who got them as a project, and then went off to college. They were born last spring. So far, I haven't been able to get any info on them. Any advice on whether I should be vaccinating them, just in case? And what about de-worming? Their favorite hobby is having the kids dig up earthworms for them, and I've heard earthworms carry ringworm?

Yeah, neighbor! Do you happen to know anyone in the area that would sell a hen? Maybe a Maran, or a Leghorn, or something fun? I'm going for color - and I like to be able to tell their eggs apart.
