New in Winston-Salem, NC

27 Rabbits....

I live in Winston Salem in Forsyth County. Not in city limits though. I really want to get hens. What did you find out? Thanks.

Wow. This was a thread from a year ago. To answer your question, I started with four chickens- two delaware, two buff brahma. The two brahmas ended up being roosters, so I had to find new homes for them (one went to my Dad's farm and one went to a friend in Davie county). Then we got two more hens from a trade for two rabbits. So, now we have four- two Delaware hens, one Comet, and one Sexlink. I usually get 3 eggs a day (maybe only two once in a while), even through the winter.

I do live in a neighborhood and have a HOA, but nobody has complained, and some have even approached me about helping them get some chickens. It helps that I have a fenced-in back yard so they don't venture away from our property and they don't make much noise. Overall, I have been happy with our chickens and wish I had gotten them years ago.

I don't think I want any more, though, since we have all the eggs we can eat. If I added two more chickens, I would have to worry about selling them or giving them away. Four is just right for our family.

Thanks for asking.

Thank, y'all! I have a fenced in back yard too. So I think they will def stay in my yard. My neighbors are on board with it. I'm going to call town hall tomorrow and just make sure before I put all that work into a coop. I was gonna transform my kids playhouse into a coop:-)

oh wow, just saw the date. lol u don't need that answer now huh? lol

Howdy neighbor.  I'm down south of you in Lexington.  For Winston, I believe you are only allowed hens and I THINK you can have up to six.  As for your "BR", it sounds like it is not really one since they do not have feathers on the legs and shouldn't be brown.  You could post in the guess the breed/gender threads to see if anyone recognizes it.
I'm looking for some mature hens possibly ameraucanas I live in kibg

I don't have any spare Ameraucanas but I do have some extra if you just want to get started. I have 11 leghorns (1 yr olds) as well as a variety of others that I could part with. I just processed a cochin since I'm making room for chicks at the end of the month.
