NEW INDOOR DUCK PEN PLANS! finally done!!!

Misting a little water gets the pellets to open up a little. They are so compressed when you first get them, sometimes it won't absorb as much as it could, that and the ducks could have a hard time walking on them. It's kind of like wetting a brand new sponge (ones that are super hard), just to get them started. Once you mix in some Sweet PDZ or DE, it dries super quick and becomes more absorbable since there is more saw dust spread around. Then the saw dust will clump where to poop, so I go in and scoop it out like i would for a cat, with a little shovel. That helps greatly with keeping things clean.

Just today I had my very honest friends over and asked them about the smell. They said they'd couldn't smell anything until they walked into the duck's room itself, but it only smelled like we had pets... not gross or poopy... just animal smell... We have two different air purifiers in there as well to help keep the air circulating and clean. Joe is in the process of building a poor man's air de-odorizer, by sprinkling a box or two of baking soda between two air filters (for furnaces), and sealing it up, they placing it on top of a box fan lying on it's back (on sup[port fans so air gets under it). We'll probably post about it if it works.

I am curious what you said aboyt adding water to the pellets. Isn't the idea to keep the pen dry. How can adding water to the pellets help keep the pen dry if the bedding is already wet?
Please explain,
