Hey all, I'm relatively new to owning chickens. Started when I came home from work to find 2 hens in my barn(turns out the ex dropped them off as I had been talking about getting chickens at some point) That was two years ago and those girls did fine in the old barn. But this year I came home to find 8 chicks set up in my barn (the ex again) . While two hens in the barn were ok , this is too much. Unfortunately they want to roost up in the hay mow and are pooping all aver the horses' hay. So I am building a coop(nearly done). Ended up being 8' x 12'. (hopefully will post that adventure in another article).
Unfortunately lost 2 half grown to some predator and one turned out to be a rooster(he's beautiful, americana). So I have barred rock, rhode island red and americama.
Add that to my 3 dogs, 2 cats, 6 horses and hopefully down the road... goats.(but don't tell my ex)
