(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
10 years ago we got 3 day old chicks. I raised them for about 2 months, but then we lost them to a predator. I was so crushed it took a long time for us to start over again.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 22 chicks and 11 hopefulls in the incubator!!
(3) What breeds do you have?
Easter eggers and "golden shoulder yokohamas" is what the box said. But we got them from the feed store at 3 bucks a pop and were told they are good egg layers...which seems odd for a fancy yoko (??)
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
With all my lack of experience...finding out my poor husband is going to build a taj mahal outta that old shed, so far. Followed closely behind by watching these adorable fluff butts tool around the brooder. Both are super cute!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Sewing and quilting, researching ways to do as much as possible myself
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have six kids, one is recently an adult and moved out. They range from 6 to 18. We have a yard cat that adopted us, a yard dog we found as well and a lap dog that someone actually threw away. I am a stay at home mom and my husband is middle management at a hardware and lumyard chain.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I joined byc ten years ago actually, but lost my account when i lost those birds. Back then i found yall thanks to googling coops. Came back as soon as we decided to give another go!
