Hi Everyone,

I'm new to keeping a backyard flock as of June 2025. I've got four chicks: Blue, Charli, Delta, and Echo. Yes, those are the names of the velociraptor pack in Jurassic World! The first three are Ameraucana and the last is an Easter Egger.

I'm excited about living more sustainably by sharing kitchen scraps from the garden with the chickens and getting compost from the chicken beddings/droppings for the garden. My neighbors and friends are interested in any of my extra blue eggs as well. :)

We have a Learning Center full of informative articles written by our members about raising chicks/chickens.

I agree though, when they grow up, they're going to need a larger place. In a coop, they should have 4 sq ft per bird, and in a run 15 sq ft. Anything less can start them picking on each other, feather plucking, etc. You can just build onto that run, I presume, though. Not sure about your coop. Those prebuilts are usually good for half the chickens they say it will hold.
