I have a juvenile (2-3 month) americana. It's about the size of an adult quail.

My plymouth, Queen Hen, has taken to picking and pecking at her. She started this too with her silkie.

What's the way to get her to calm down and have the new juvenile introduced?

I have had this problem before and I was desperate so I tried something and it worked! I bought rooster booster brand peck no more lotion and I smeared it on my babies. My hen pecked once and that was all it took. She hated the strong tea tree smell of that lotion so badly she didn't peck again. I continued to apply the lotion to the babies for about a week straight, making sure it was on the babies well. After that week she left my little ones alone. I was so tired of hearing them scream and her pecking them I was willing to try anything! And it was successful! I bought two bottles to have on hand but didn't need them after that week. It won't hurt the babies . It's a thick purple lotion that smells to high heavens because it's made with tea tree oil to promote healing of the pecked areas. I would apply this lotion generously to each babies back and head. They didn't much like it but it kept my hen from hurting them. She would get one whiff of that lotion and man, she hated it! In my case after that week she left them alone. I bought the peck no more from tractor supply. It's in a brown bottle. It's a thick smelly purple lotion but it worked!! You might want to give it a try and see if it will work for you. Of course be cautious NOT to get in the babies eyes or mouth. You might want to wear gloves because it can turn your hand a bit purple but it washes right off and wears off pretty quickly on the chicks as well. It was very successful for me. I was so tired of hearing my babies scream! My hen hated that stuff and stopped her pecking on my little ones. I really hope this helps. It worked for me. And it does not hurt either birds. Good luck.

Interesting.

Can you send me your unused portion? I can pay you through paypal. It's kind of expensive online.

Let me know.

Where in California are you? I'm in San Gabriel Valley.
