I never recommend having fewer than 10 guineas. They are a flock bird and do best in large groups.

It is instinct for them to fear anything approaching from above.

Go slowly and as close as possible to their height. No sudden movements. Sit quietly and calmly and allow the keet to come to you rather than trying to grab the keet.

Ok thanks. Do you have any tips on how to raise them? Are they like chickens?
They are not like chickens. They are closer to being wild than they are to being tame. Give them a quality high protein turkey or gamebird starter for their first 6 weeks. Follow that with a good turkey or gamebird grower for the next 6 weeks. Keep feed and water available at all times.

I just figured I'd give my two cents on the subject. You do not have to have a large flock of guineas. I have two that have lived with several chickens for years with no problems. It may not be ideal, but everyone gets along. That being said, both of my guineas are hens, so that may have an effect on behavior. Good luck with your guineas, but don't expect them to be cuddly. They are not tame at all. Also, on a side note, be careful of their legs because they are very fragile and known to break easily. I used to have a website booked that had a lot of good information for raising guineas, but I can't find it now. If I do, I'll try to post a link.
