Introducing Turkey and Lurkey my two BB! Only two of my eight eggs hatched, but aside from crooked toes on the little one, they both seem to be doing well.

One question - I have mealworms for my chickens. How soon can I give these guys some?

Congrats on your hatch!!!! to bad you didn't get more.

We don't feed ours anything but game bird starter until they get older.

On the crooked toes. there is a fix for that but you need to do it right away.

Look at the normal turkey foot, the middle toe and two outer toes, note the position as the poults stands on it.

Take some tape, we use clear packing tape I think it's about two inches wide. Take your poult and place it's foot down on the sticky side with the toes in the normal postion. take another piece and put over the top to hold the toes down. I will look like a snow shoe. Trim the excess tape around the outside of the foot and between the toes. Leave enough between the toes to hold them in the normal postion. It only takes a few days for the toes to go to a normal position. I leave it on for 2 days then take it off to see if it took, if still crooked do it again. It's much easier to do the taping and trimming with two people.

They will eat mealworms and waxworms at a day or two old. They love them. Useful in my limited experience to get a weak poult going along with sugar or molasses in their water. Expensive though.

I only feed the weak ones meal worms. If they are not eating and starving out I'll throw some meal worms in to keep them alive. They love them and go bananas over them, so careful on them. With molasses in the water and meal worms, I have saved alot of weak, starving out poults.

These guys are eating well and look fine, so I'll give the mealworms to the chickens for now. Thanks all!
