Hi Guys,
OK so last week we saw a mouse close to the coop. Well I put peanut butter in a trap and even though we have seen it again twice it has not been trapped.
Now I love all animals and had mentioned a cat to DH before and when DH seen the mouse he said well looks like we need a cat now

So on Sat of last week we went to Petsmart they have cats there from Alliance for Spay-Neuter and Pet Rescue. I wanted a female since I have heard they tend to stay closer to home. But once we got there we fell in love with a male who loves to be petted and purrs so loud

and then there was this lovely little girl a tad skittish but once you got her she was ok.
Now the plan was for these to be barn type cats and get the mice and such....well when we got home DH yes it was him who said... aren't they too small to be out there. Humm I said ok they should go in the house and we can put them in the bathroom for a bit.
Did I mention DH isn't animal person? He isn't or so he says. so the kittens go in the bathroom at night now but run the house during the day.
DHs friend seen my kitties and said those aren't no barn cats... I looked puzzled at him huh?? It appears there is domestic cats and there are barn cats.. I didn't know

I do intend for them to go out some during the day but they'll be in and safe at night.
BTW the rescue that sells them at petsmart had them already spayed and neutered them plus their shots They only adopt out animals they save from the local animal control, Boris was surrendered at a vet office with a fishing hook in his mouth

They are so pretty! We just brought our first ever cat home on Saturday. She was a stray & hubby fell in love with her. Congratulations, they look so content.

OH MY GOSH. The grey looks like my barn kitty Smokey (who is infact NOT a grey but a two tone dark grey tabby). We took in two adult kitties from the Toronto Humane Society. Feral cats from Toronto that are rounded up, fixed and given shots, and sent out to farms outside Toronto. We asked for their biggest, fattest, hugest kitties and they sent us our adorable kittycat men! ... Neither of them are friendly, but Smokey is starting to let us get closer to him.

They could be Indoor/Outdoor cats could they not? CAT FLAP ANYONE?

This is my Smokey

Ps, A regular housecat can be a barn cat too. My cat Accio, is a housecat who is hellbent on escaping to eat all the mice in the world. He was the baby of a feral, and man does he have those feral instincts.

Cute cats! And yes, domestic cats are still very good hunters! Start letting them out during the day and you will find many "presents" on your doorstep I am sure!

Hahahaha I do all the time, Smokey and Spots even leave presents for the chickens! .. I found one of Smokey's presents on the step infront of the coop one morning and they've left the chickens small birds, a vole...

very very cute.. good for you that you took them out of the pound.Way to many cats and dogs end up at the pound.

I would suggest one thing tho.. once u let them into the barn.. dont leave the collars on the cats. They can get stuck on things and hang themselfs. Even the breakaway collars sometimes do not release and they can still get hung up on things. Cats are known to get into very thight spaces and the collar can get hung up on things very easy.
