New layer? Egg bound/pain?

Thank you. I was thinking about doing that with the oyster shells. Thanks for the advice!
I made a really cool oyster shell holder that I mount on a pole that works great! So easy to make even I could do it.

Or you could just take a coke or water bottle, cut it in 1/2 and attach it to your fence. Don't forget to drill some holes in the bottom for drainage.

Let us know!
Well she's making a little noise this morning, but definitely not like normal. When I went in she perked up a bit she was trying to sit in her water bowl again (found her like that yesterday before I brought her in) she stretched her neck out a bit.. looked like her feathers were matted down from her resting her head.. i checked to see if there was any discomfort or wound and didn't see anything..

She's pooped it looks like she ate some of the mealworms I put in there with some food/oyster shell.

I gave her the calcium gluconate and also put some electrolytes in her water this am. Threw in some mealworms and a couple blueberries to see if she'd eat them. (She's also usually the first to treats)

Still didn't put up a fight for me to grab her. She still looks like she missing the sparkle. Definitely not moving around like herself.

Is there any type of maybe a pain reliever I could get otc?(if I may need it now or for the future)

If you can give her the 1ml calcium gluconate by syringe it would be a lot better than putting it in her water where it gets diluted. Just be sure you get it down the right hole so she doesn't aspirate. I can help you with that if you need help. I've done it so many times it's like second nature to me.

By syringe I don't mean injecting it!

I'm a new feather lover so ALL of this is definitely new to me. I can't get other animals to take meds because its pretty straight forward 😆 this was intimidating.

I was thinking that as I was getting it out of the bottle to put it in her berries. (Tbh I ended up injecting blueberries) so I brought them out and got to thinking. What if she doesn't eat them how do I know of she ate the ones I did? So I went back in and filled the syringe and just figured I'd try it. I think she took it... I didn't feel any liquid come out?

When could I try to give her more of it in case she didn't get the full dose?

Does she eat tomatoes? If she does I've had great luck getting my ducks to take all kinds of solid medication by putting tablets/capsules inside grape tomatoes. I just slice off the top near where the stem used to attach, then cut down length wise separating the two lobes, keeping one fully intact. I can take photos of what I do if she does eat tomatoes and that isn't clear. You can buy calcium gluconate in vitamin form and hide it right inside. Then quickly hand feed it before it has a chance to disolve.

Two of my ducks have to take 6!! capsules of veterinary prescribed medication daily for the rest of their lives... So I do this a lot.

She LOVES tomatoes. (So do we so she gets them A LOT)

I'm not sure whats going on. She's still acting quiet and lethargic. I still have her in my garage where it's quite dark though. No egg today... but she's a new layer (now I know she's actually laying) I'm not sure if her being in the dark is helping or hindering?

I was thinking about putting her back in the bath. When would I be able to give her another dose?Should I take her out and give her some light? Maybe on my porch, still away from the chaos of the flock?

I have so many questions! Thanks guys for all the help and advice. I feel terrible that I can't seem to help her.

Hi, Ok so this is how I give my girls calcium gluconate with a syringe which enables you to give her the whole dose and spill nothing.

Grab a chair and a towel. Then grab the duck. Wrap the towel around the duck so her wings don't hit you and sit down with her in the chair. Calm her down and wait until she settles.

You should be holding her with your left arm close to your body. Use your left hand and under her chin open her bill with your thumb and index finger. It helps to have fingernails. With the duck's mouth open slide the syringe in on the DUCK'S RIGHT side of her mouth and squirt it in! Zip zip easy peasy and she gets the whole dose.

Once you do it a few times you and the duck will get in a routine and it will be so easy for both of you.

I think there also may be a possibility that she may have something else going on too so if this doesn't work you may need to give something else like an antibiotic. I had my little penciled girl acting like that this spring. She just wasn't herself and acting like yours is now. I put her on baytril for a few days and she got better quickly and did great.

Is that something I can pick up at the feed store or tractor supply?

Thanks so much! This kinda sounds like what I did... just didn't necessarily make sure where it was going 😳
