Hello! My cream legbar just started laying a few weeks ago. Although I have only noticed 2 blue eggs from her. Today she was fluffed up and generally looking like she wasn’t feeling feel. I brought her inside and noticed her vent kept pulsating like she was trying to push out an egg. I gave her some tums and put her in a a warm Epsom salt bath for 30 minutes. Once I pulled her out of the bath all of this scrambled egg yolk stuff came out of her all over my lap and blanket. I felt around with a gloved finger in olive oil in her vent for a shell but there was no shell. I did give her an antibiotic just to be safe as obviously whatever came out of her could grow into infection. She is now in the house in a dog crate in a dark warm room. I made her some mash with calcium in it as well as yogurt to help restore her gut flora after the antibiotics and some fresh water with electrolytes. Besides what I have already done is there anything else I can do for her? Will she be able to lay her beautiful blue eggs again normally? I’m so worried about her 😭

Hard to tell what was discharged - looks like urates.
Is she feeling any better?

What antibiotic did you give her (name and dose)?

Like anything it's just a guess on our part. You will have to wait and see how this plays out. This may be a glitch that she's working out since she's a new layer.
See that she's eating well, drinking, has oyster shell and grit free choice, her crop is emptying overnight and there's no lice/mites.
Hopefully she will perk up with your extra care and attention.

Thank you for your response. I have been giving her water/poultry electrolytes via a baby dropper and mixed her up a mash of feed and yogurt. I might try scrambled eggs tomorrow. I have her .25 cc of penicillin.

How is she doing today?

Thank you for asking! She is drinking water. I mixed her up some scrambled eggs and she hasn’t ate. I keep checking her every 15 minutes. Do you suggest any other things I should be doing? Her poop is very tar like. I’m not sure if it’s cecal poop or if something is just not right. Like I said, I keep checking her 4 times an hour. I’m so worried about her I had a hard time sleeping last night

Can you get some photos of her poop?
It's good that she's drinking.
Have you felt inside the vent for an egg?
