I have a speckled sussex hen that has been laying for a week now. She has decided to hop over the fence and lay her eggs under the air conditioning unit of our neighbors house. The problem is they have two dogs that have killed one of our pullets already this year.

We tried the obvious solution, and clipped her wings for the second time this year. She responded by hopping the fence twice yesterday. She is one of our favorites, but she will be killed eventually if I can't figure this out.

Any suggestions?

She is free range. The fence is about 4' tall (max height by rule). I was thinking maybe some rubbermaid nest boxes placed in shaded areas in my yard to give her an alternative, or some type of lead/leash in her leg to weigh her down a bit, or..?

Are you sure she's hoppimg the fence... If shes jumping it you may need a taller fence... 4 ft isn't very high for a chicken...

Definitely not getting under the fence if thats what you mean. Increasing the fence height is not an option.

I donT know then... I would. Make it were she can't lay under the air conditioner tho... Maybe then she wouldn't.... Pro. Just find a new place tho... I wouldn't put a lead or anything that could hinder her scratching tho!
