Our 2 Red Stars are about 6 months old.
One hen started laying about 2.5 weeks ago and has been laying in the nest boxes every time.
Until the second hen started laying 4 days ago.
Now, they are both laying in the far corner of the chicken coop.
Which is a serious pain, because we have 4 perfectly good nesting boxes with nice clean pine shavings yet, we have to crawl into the coop to get the eggs in the far corner.
We put fake eggs(with a rock in them for weight) in all of the nesting boxes yesterday.
We also turned the light on in the coop, so the corner would be bright and seem less convenient to lay in.
Yet, they're still laying in the corner.
Should I put today's eggs in the nesting boxes instead of the fake eggs?

Thanks for your input!!

I understand they prefer darker area for laying. Try putting the light on the corner they are laying in.

The light in the coop is right over where they were laying.
Having it on didn't make a difference this morning.
The nesting boxes are definitely darker than the rest of the coop, even when the light is on.

I'm new to chickens also and am addicted. My girls have been laying for a month now and how I realized they were laying, my favorite layed an egg right at my feet!!
