new layer question...

My 20 week old RIR has been laying very nice small, hard shelled eggs for 3 days now. Tonight, she laid another egg...right in front of me! It was soft shelled, but perfect yolk and white..... About 4 minutes after she laid that egg, she laid another one!! It too was soft shelled, yet perfect inside when we opened it. What is going on with my Clara? I've never heard of this before. Is this normal? After the whole ordeal was over, she started walking about and eating again.......Please help!

Pullets when starting to lay do odd things. Laying two close together like that is are, but that happens. The soft shells were because they didn't stay in the shell depositing gland long enough. She should settle down.

Thank you Den in Penn! I was 'concerned' about my Clara, but after reading your reply and reading ALOT about chickens last night...I guess its 'normal'........thanks again! ~Beulah
