I believe the rule of thumb is 3 sq ft per chicken for night time roosting.
It's 4 sq ft and 1 linear foot of roost space. Roost time is BRUTAL. And you need to have a large coop and LARGE run for when you have to lock them down due to predators, weather, vacations, etc.

That's more for our bantam breeds. It's 4 sq feet for the rest in the coop. We can support a lot more silkie chickens comfortably in our coop than our neighbor with brahmas can get in hers.
