New Layers - how many days between eggs?

As a very new and first time chicken owner we are excited every time we see an egg and I have an app that I'm tracking number, weight & (if I know) who laid it. We have four POL girls - 2 Isa browns, 1 black australorp and 1 leghorn. The 2 isa's started laying almost the day they came home and have consistently layed 6 out of 7 days for the last 5-6 weeks. Then last week we found a third egg!!! We were delighted and suspected the australorp immediately based on squatting & vent inspection. But there have been no further 3 eggs days, and in fact we had 2 days in a row with only 1 egg. The 3rd egg was the same size (48g) as our Isa's eggs but very slightly lighter brown so I doubt one of the Isa's popped two out in one day!

It has been 6 days now since the 3 egg day so my question is how long would be normal between eggs for a new layer? Is she just holding out on us??? It's autumn here in Australia but the days are still very warm and it's light from 6am to 6pm.

Sex links will mess you up as they make you think all hens lay consistently like them. Many breeds are inconsistent, some lay "x" many times a week, others lay than stop.

You will see higher production in spring and a hens first year before it starts to slow.

New layer can take a while to find their pattern. I have new layers lay than nothing more for weeks. Other become more regular quickly. Every hen is different.

Sex linked hen seeing that they are purpose egg layers should lay an egg a day for most of the Spring and early Summer as a white leghorn should do. other hens that have been taken over by the dictates of Chicken Breeders or the the "SHOW RING" will not lay as reliably and may lay less than one egg ever other day. As a side benefit these heritage hens may keep laying fewer (?) eggs for you for a longer period of time.

Thank you for your replies! I am very happy to report that we got 4 eggs today!! :celebrate

Needless to say I'm delighted and so proud of our girls :woot
