My girls have been laying for two and a half weeks, and we have already gotten two double yolk eggs! The first was small, but longer than the other eggs, and the second is much larger but not much longer. Will she continue to lay double yolks or will she eventually stop?

That happens sometimes with new layers, it depends on the chicken really. it would be cool if you continuously got some though :) whenever mine laid double yolkers, it would be once in a while

I would love double yolks continuously! I'm just worried about the health of the chicken, I read that chickens who lay double yolk eggs are more likely to become egg bound and die

I wouldn't leap to that conclusion...I have a New Hampshire that laid double yolks (and I think a triple once) who lived to old age....ditto for a Delaware.

But chances are once their systems settle in, you'll get regular yolks on a regular basis.

Thank you so much, that's really reassuring! I hope to get a few double yolks, my boyfriend cant wait to hard boil them!
