New laying hen having trouble.

I have a chicken that is just starting to lay, She is 26 weeks old. Yesterday was her second egg. She had some trouble laying. I know this because she tried laying on my porch in the corner. I thought that I saw the egg just hanging but didn't want to mess with her. I also had to leave to deliver some food. When we came back we found the egg in the middle of the yard. Is this common? What can I do to help her? Help.

doesnt sound like a problem chickens will lay where they feel comfortable. what setup do you have in the coop?

I have an A frame coop. Top half is a nest area. I have two older hens who lay fine in it. This is my first time with a new layer. I have had two since two days old and she is my first to lay. My other two I was giver were already laying, that are over a year old.

We noticed an egg on our porch Monday. We watched who might have laid it. Yesterday she came on the porch back to the corner and seemed very uncomfortable so I got a round bucket, filled it with shavings and placed it in the corner. She went right to it when he came back on the porch. She tried laying in it.
