I am new to chickens. We brought home 8 chicks a little over a year ago. I just lost one. I am not doing something right.

Just 3
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I would have never expected them to give me such wonderful and rewarding attachment.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like to garden.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am married, with one child in the nest. My mom also resides with us.
We have 2 senior dogs and a senior cat. (Dogs 16 and 11. Cat 21).
My husband works for the county and I am in healthcare.
Child is in college.
Mom...retired watchin K-pop dramas pretty much all day.

I googled "chicken care" about a year ago.
I lost a chicken and felt it is best to not depend only on vet suggestions. (Vet killed my chicken. I no longer have trust in them).
