Ok building my first coop... and started with little research. I've been seeing a lot of linolium (SP?) floors and lets just say my head hurts

.

Is it worth trying to put it in now? Can it be installed in a day while the girls are in the run? Their floor right now is plywood that has straw bedding.

Just clean the floor up real good, put the linoleum down and tack it down all around the edges. You'll love it for clean up. It all happens real fast too. Couple of hrs. max. Btw, if you put it up on the wall behind the roosts, as high as the roosts, it makes it easy to clean up wall splatter too. Good Luck

Do you have the ability to put the chooks somewhere else (like a dog crate) for the night? If you do, I'd just paint the floor. You'll want to prime first, so get some Kilz that dries in an hour. Then you can paint right away. Leave chickens in the run, let it dry overnight, leave them in the run the next day and it should be fine. If you had a small portable fan, even better.

It's not the end of the world to not have a sealed floor. It just makes clean up significantly easier.

I put down some super cheap peel-and-stick tiles, but we bought some mega-super-industrial-strength adhesive to use too so they wouldn't peel up. It does make clean-up a breeze having those linoleum tiles on the floor, for sure.

I did the seal and paint but the droppings seemed to burn the paint off. So today I went and got 5.00 worth of peel and stick so I hope it will be easier....Then I will put the bedding down before bed time....Hubby is starting to get irritated with me...I keep on getting great ideas from here and adding them onto my coop.....Oh well!! Good luck!

Yeah, I just painted the floor in my shed and now am really mad that I didn't listen to DH. (Shush, don't tell him, I'll never live it down!) I should have put down linoleum and have that on my to do list now.

However, it would have been easier if I had put it down first before I put in the frames for the coops inside. Geez! At my age you would think I would have grown a brain!

I have heard you can buy some linoleum very cheap and that sounds like it would be in my budget. There is one thing me and my peeps have in common, we both cheep!

Yep It was my first demand and I got bunked....till he saw me scrubbing my coop today... I love all your tractors and coops MASH is cool looking too...make sure you tell DH before asking for linolium....alway inflate ego before asking...lol...have a happy day!!

LOL
He knows I love the M*A*S*H units and I help him build them. We are on our 4th one now and have framed up a 5th one.
I don't have to ask for linoleum. If I want it, I go buy it. He will just gloat when he sees me installing it. <sigh>
