So this is my new Mama. Her chicks hatched Aug 7. She's a great Mama. My question is? When will she leave her hatchlings go go outside the coop? Her and her chicks r in the coop with the rest of the chickens but they are separated by a screen in the coop the rest of the flock can see her and her chicks. She can get out if she needs or wants to buy she hasn't tried yet.
Also doesn't she needs to bring them outside eventuality? Not sure how to allow that to happen since our coop is not ground level, they need to go up and down a ramp to get in and out of the coop.

She will venture outside soon, sometimes it takes a few days. And in my experience, chicks are perfectly fine with using ramps; they'll follow their mama when she's ready to leave. Super cute little chicken family:love

When should I remove the screen separating the chicks and Mama from the rest of the flock. My other girls only go in the coop to lay and go in for the night. Are they to little to be around the rest of the flock?

I was searching on the ramp question! I just had my hen hatch 6 babies 4 days ago and I’ve let mama out but I’m worried about the babies and the steep ramp... how did it go for you?! Also did you have any issues with them being around the rest of your flock? I only have one other hen in the coop mama and babies are in and I’ve kept her out while hatching went on and since then but hopefully can let everyone together.

My babies figured it out! It took a couple days for all of them to figure it out. Two of the smaller ones had to be put back in the coop at night but only for a couple of nights and they figured out. I put them halfway up the ramp at night and they figured it out. Mama would stick her head out the door and call them in and they would go up. Amazing to watch her teach them. The rest of the flock do no bother them at all.

Thank you for sharing! How old were yours when they started going out? Mine were just hatched Thursday.
