Hi I have a 4 month old chicken at home. I'm new to chickens and where I live there's very little information about them so I joined to ask questions. I don't even know what the exact species of my baby is, I think it's Polish because of its hair, what do you think it is? Anyway, nice to meet you😃

I would guess she's a Polish or a Polish mix. In any case, she's a beauty (I'm guessing it's a girl because you didn't mention crowing!) ! How did she come to live with you? And, what's her name?

If at all possible, it would be nice for her to have some chicken friends. In the meantime, a recent scientific study showed what chicken owners have known forever -- a mirror in with a single chicken can help it feel less lonely.

Welcome to BYC, where a generous and knowledgeable group of folks will be happy to help in any way we can. It's nice to meet you and your pretty baby!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

She's a Polish or Polish mix. When are you building her a nice big coop and run and getting her some friends?
She stays inside the house I take her for a walk outside when it's warm. I don't plan on bringing in other chickens right now,🥲 but I do let her meet my neighbor's chicken sometimes

Ideally, chickens live outdoors with other chickens. Having said that, my Dottie, because of early life experiences, has lived indoors for all of her four years. She isn't particularly lonely -- she has me, two dogs and a cat for company. But, she is TERRIFIED of other chickens and runs when she sees any during her outdoor field trips.

It sounds like your baby is doing fine!

Her name is Santa🙂. I plan to get another when she grows up. Right now I put a mirror and I work from home so I interact with her often.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Aww... she's pretty! ❤️ Plenty of people keep house chickens, as long as they get plenty of attention and proper diet, they can do just fine. I'd get her outside once a day to free range or take a dust bath, you can free range with her. 😊
