I did not know any of those things. Ducks were always something I thought about, but wasn't sure if it was feasible.Metzer farms has a nice duck comparison chart that includes egg production... some of the layer type ducks are as good as many chicken breeds,200-290 eggs a year. http://www.metzerfarms.com/DuckBreedComparison.cfm?CustID=2854688 Duck hens are usually fine with chickens, you want to be very careful keeping drakes with chicken hens since they can severely injure them trying to mate with them (usually recommended keeping only in a free range or ample space type setting where you have a good duck hen/ drake ratio). The other main problem with keeping ducks and chickens together is the ducks need for water, and how they are really really messy with it, so it take some doing to keep things clean and dry.
