Hi, my name is Karl an excited to be here! New chicken dad alert!
Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Wanted chickens for year but finally bought a house. Just finished my coops and pen and love it! Hatched my own birds and bought a few others! My first batch only hatched one out of the 24 other eggs and he had a gimp foot so naturally his name is Nemo! To keep from dieing of social anxiety I got him some new friends! I got this batch in April of 2023. I then hatched 15 other birds 4 weeks later.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
16 chickens* (14 hens and 2 Roos) *plus one Turkey!
Oh and currently 7 Cornish x
(3) What breeds do you have?
Silkies regular
Silkie bantam
Speckled Sussex/ayam cemani
Amberlink/ayam cemani
Turkey
Buff Orpington
and one other grey breed I’m not 100% sure but got from a friend!
And plan on more!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Forcing me to be consistent!
Caring for animals (first Time pet owner)
The simple yet beauty of birds.
And eventually eggs to eat, sell, and give away to needy widows in my town.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Triathlon, exercise, learning, cooking!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Single but visit family.
I help coach, do life coaching, buisness coaching and Christian fund raising coaching with a passion for generosity!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Just google and the answers I’ve found have been so so helpful and want to share my knowledge but continue to learn from others here!
