New Member...and First Chicken Coop

Wow! I like your set up! So much so, that I think I'm going to copy your ramp! I can't change my coop, but I can change my ramp. No more piles of poop on the ramp!!!!! Thanks for posting this!

Thanks. That was my thinking when we were designing the coop. It seems like a much more maintenance free way to build a ramp. A local person told me it would be a hazard and their feet/toes would get caught in the mesh. Personally, I don't see it. So far the chicks have not had any problems and they are all over the ramps playing. The hardware cloth is 1/2" x 1/2" mesh. Glad you like it!

Well, I made a ramp yesterday. I'll take a picture of it today when it gets light out. We'll see how it goes. One chicken tried it yesterday and didn't seem to like the mesh and walked up the side on the support. I think they will need a few days to get used to it. If not, I still have the old ramp.

Ok, Here it is. I sandwitched the half inch hardware cloth into the ramp so no sharp edges would be exposed.
When I opened the door to the coop, all the chickens decided they didn't like the look of it and jumped down off the deck.
I'm sure if I give them some time, they will eventually use it. They are used to a solid wood ramp and this is new to them.

That sure looks good. My chicks were scared of the internal ramp at first. When they started exploring it they would only walk on the sides, then it was this squatted walk/crawl...now they run all over it. It could be the visual thing of not having something under them. Great pictures!
