Hi All,
I've only posted a few times. I've been trying to get my hands on a coop at a fair price and finally found one! I'll post a pic once I get it, it's being delivered this weekend; found it on Craig's List. Patience and daily checking on that site finally paid off.
I was disappointed and on the edge of panic when I realized I couldn't just order sexed female bantam chicks in the breeds of my choice at my local feed store. Even online, most places wanted a minimum of 25 and most of them were straight run! I finally found MyPetChickens and called them today. They were AWESOME on the phone, I had to call twice and both girls were super nice; one of which was the owner. I paid much more than I expected, but I don't mind that so much since they are after all pets, I'm just happy to get the breeds I wanted.
I ordered 8 female bantams. They had a "feather-legged assortment" which includes Silkies, Cochins (Frizzle), Brahmas, and Mille-Fleurs d' Uccle, the last of which I had never heard of. She said all those breeds are friendly and docile, so I think it will be fun to discover what breeds and colors I get!
So I still need to build a run to add to the hen house, but that shouldn't be too hard. Now I'm on to the new chick section to get new chick care info so I can go prepare the nursery for the babies! Still a couple more weeks before they ship.
I'm so excited! Yay!
