I'm not sure how much mash I should be feeding my flock of five? I have been giving them scraps and they free range in our yard. I'm just not sure how much mash to feed them in the morning and at night. HELP?

Greetings from Kansas and :welcome! Pleased you joined our community! I agree with the wise sourland. Free choice layer on the ration is the way to go...your hens won't overeat. Best wishes and thanks for joining BYC! :)

Welcome!

I do not have an automatic feeder for my small flock of 5 bantams and I simply put out enough of their grain layer mix each morning to last them the day plus whatever scraps they are getting for breakfast. It can take a little while to work out exactly how much to give them but when I started, I put out too much initially and then dropped it back until there was only a small amount left at the end of the day. When I got to that point, that amount is what I gave them every morning. It fluctuates slightly depending on the time of year, losses and additions etc.

I hope you enjoy BYC; not only is it overflowing with lots of useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures about chickens, turkeys, duck, quail, Peas and pretty much any other feathered and non feathered friends
